Washington County currently has substantial transmission of COVID and is trending upwards. As such, to visit and play at Discovery Station, masks will be required for everyone 5 and over – regardless of vaccination status. No exceptions. Masking will go a long way towards preventing the spread of the coronavirus. Discovery Station reserves the right to ask any guest to leave if they refuse to wear a mask. Per the State of Maryland, reasonable efforts should be made for children between the ages of two and eight to wear face coverings. We understand it’s tough for young kids, and we will be gentle in our reminders. We offer virtual programs and STEAM activities online for our visitors who are uncomfortable visiting the museum during Covid19 with our mask policy in place.

Thursday, November 18th at 11 a.m. | STEAM Thursday: The Cloud Artist with Author Sherri Maret
Children's author Sherri Maret is back for a special STEAM Thursday in honor of Native American Heritage Month! She'll be reading her book The Cloud Artist and leading a cloud art activity. Her picture book, The Cloud Artist, is in English and Choctaw. It is also #ownvoices since the illustrator, translator, and author are all members of the Choctaw Nation!
About The Cloud Artist: Leona, a little Choctaw girl, uses the sky as a canvas and the clouds as paint. When a traveling man learns of her gift and invites her to join the carnival, the Cloud Artist must make a decision about what kind of artist she wants to be.
