Discovery Station at Hagerstown Inc. will begin construction Tuesday on its newest exhibit, “Discovery Town.” Effective that day, the Early Childhood Gallery will be closed.
The new exhibit, scheduled to open in late summer, will be an enclosed area that invites those 5 and younger to crawl, climb and walk to explore and manipulate new environments and surfaces. Discovery Town will give younger visitors a chance to explore, experiment and pretend in a safe place built just for them. It will provide experiences to establish a sturdy foundation for developmental behaviors.
“We are excited to be partnering with OnTrack and local educators to focus on an exhibit specifically for children ages 5 and under to help support foundational preschool skills,” Brittany Wedd, operations director, said in a news release.
Discovery Town will focus on socioemotional development, personal health and safety, cognitive development and motor skills. By focusing on these areas of early childhood development within the framework of this exhibit, Discovery Station hopes to assist families with school readiness.
