Discovery Station is pleased to announce that AshLynn Humphrey has been named the museum’s Child Director of the Year. Ms. Humphrey will work alongside museum staff and volunteers over the course of 2019 to develop new programs and exhibits.
“We are very excited to have AshLynn join our volunteer team as this year’s child director.” states Brittany Wedd, executive director of Discovery Station. “As our museum serves thousands of children each year, we felt that it was important to have a child’s input into the work that we do. I have already begun working with AshLynn on a top-secret STEAM project that the museum will be unveiling later this year.”
AshLynn was one of dozens of children who submitted video resumes as part of the museum’s Child Director for a Day Contest. Contest finalists had their video resumes uploaded to the Discovery Station Facebook page, where the museum’s followers “voted” to determine who would be named the winner. AshLynn’s video resume was a fan favorite with over 10,000 “likes”, “comments” and “shares”.
Discovery Station announced that she would serve as the child director for all of 2019 when AshLynn served as the Child Director for a Day on March 16th. On her first day in the position, Ms. Humphrey assisted with a hands-on STEAM program that had children building Leprechaun Traps. The program was attended by approximately 60 people.
Asked what AshLynn will do as the Discovery Station child director, she stated: “I will make sure kids love science. I will be a good director because I am kind and love to help people.”
The museum will continue to hold the contest each year with a new child being named the honorary child director for a year.
